Duties & Responsibilities Serve as legislative research associate to the federal relations office of the university. Primary duties include assisting legislative and federal relations staff; identifying bills, regulations and issues of interest to the university; analyzing potential impact on the university; tracking/researching legislation across all issue areas; attending hearings; drafting memos, papers, and correspondence on issues; assisting with identification of key stake-holders on campus; and developing ways to communicate effectively with these constituencies. Primary responsibility for coordinating the completion of the lobbying disclosure form required quarterly by Congress and to assist in scheduling and logistics for DC meetings for high level university officials. Position also requires limited administrative support for a small office, including website management and computer troubleshooting.

 

Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree and familiarity with legislative process required. Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills also required.

 

Additional Qualifications At least one year experience on Capitol Hill or in the executive branch strongly preferred. Experience with using Internet-based federal and congressional research tools and familiarity with higher education institutions preferred.

 

Additional Information While demanding significant initiative and the ability to work independently, these efforts will be carried out under the directions of other federal relations staff. This position is confidential and not part of the bargaining unit. It is located in the Office of Federal Relations in Washington, DC.
