The Role:
The Director of Public Relations will develop and direct the strategy, tactics, activities, budgets and resources for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) International and Brand Public Relations Department. This position will align strategies with multiple LVCVA departments and local stakeholders to create, implement and manage domestic and international communications programs to generate positive media coverage and promote Las Vegas visitation. This individual will serve as an expert brand storyteller that has extensive knowledge in creating positive media attention for the organization.


What You’ll Do:

  • Tell A Story:
    • Develop strategic and comprehensive communications and public relations strategies across all channels.
    • Analyze market conditions, identify relevant audiences and recommend activities that expand the Las Vegas brand while effectively and responsibly utilizing resources.
    • Research, write, edit, and update press releases, talking points, articles, and other communication materials.
    • Prepare and distribute the weekly media opportunities newsletter and other communication documents to resort and allied partners.
    • Develop talking points and other communication documents for staff and executives and ensure they are prepared with current destination information.

  • Collaborate:
    • Direct day-to-day domestic public relations efforts with agency of record. Collaborate and innovate with local stakeholders and other LVCVA departments including Airline Development, International Sales, Digital Engagement, Public Affairs, Research Center, Advertising, etc.
    • Coordinate and manage consumer, trade and business media opportunities including FAM trips, trade shows, trade missions, in-market events, international events, activations and airline launches.
    • Point of contact for domestic and international media inquiries.

  • Lead an Extraordinary Team:
    • Motivate, encourage, and direct internal staff and international representative offices to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
    • Assist with the identification, selection, training and evaluation of international representative offices if/when applicable.

  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Responsible for program budget for International and Brand Public Relations efforts.
    • Review and approve travel requests, expense accounts, and other financial and administrative documents for the Public Relations Department and all international public relations representatives.

What We’re Looking For:


  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred
  • Seasoned leader in public relations, communications, and/or journalism
  • Proven track record in strategic public relations and/or communications disciplines
  • Ability to embrace and understand other cultures and exhibit cultural sensitivity in communication and actions
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents
  • Ability to write reports, budgets, business correspondence, sales collateral, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak publicly and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, mission partners and the general public
  • Advanced ability to listen and communicate effectively with clients, vendors, management, and other Ambassadors in a variety of formats
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Demonstrate commitment to valuing differences among individuals and being inclusive
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current U.S. Passport for required international travel
  • Must be able to work non-traditional office hours as needed
  • Must travel for extended periods when necessary
